Map and region description
Evenkya is situated on the Central Siberian Plateau on the right side of the
Yenisey between 59 - 70 grad. of latitude north and 88-108 grad. of longitude
east. There is Putoran Plateau spread to the North. Evenkya is characterized by
a complicated, mainly mountain relief. Moreover it is characterized by a
bandwidth of geotectonical, hydrogeological, climatic and hydrological
conditions. Tundras occupy 1/ 10 of the whole territory. Spacing of the
administrative centre Tura and Moscow is 5738 km.
Evenkya occupies 767,6 thousand of square kilometers (32% of the Krasnoyarsk
territory, 4,5% of Russian Federation). From the North to the South it stretches
for about 1500 km, from the East to the West - about 800-850 km.
In the north the region borders on Taimyr municipal region, on Yakutia and
Irkutsk territory in the east, in the south-east it borders Boguchansky and
Kezhemsky regions, in the west and south-west - on Severo-Yeniseisky and
Turukhansky regions of the Krasnoyarsk territory.
Total population is 16,979 thousand of people (1.01.2007). among them natives
are 3029. population density is 0,03 person per 1 square km.
The region is concerned to be an ultima Thule territory of Russia with a
strongly continental climate. Annual range of temperatures is from minus 40
grad. C to minus 53 grad. C (in Tura).
Monthly mean temperatures of January are
minus 34-38 grad. C. Frosts last for 240-275 days. Average temperatures of July
- +13 +15 grad. C. rainfall level - about 400 mm per year.
Considerable part of the territory belongs to a permafrost habitat. According
to demoecological zonation of North the territory occupies absolute
uncomfortable and extreme uncomfortable zones.
Inspite of extreme climate characteristics Evenkya is rich in resources and
possesses a huge industrial potential.
By the way one of the perspective activities for the region development is
touring. Because Evenkya is supposed to be one of the most beautiful areas of
virgin nature on Earth. |
